Statement on the Failure of Health Repeal in the Senate

Jason Bailey | July 28, 2017

KCEP Executive Director Jason Bailey on the failure of Affordable Care Act repeal legislation in the U. S. Senate:

“The collapse of the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the Senate is a historic victory for the health and well-being of Kentuckians. Our state saw nation-leading gains in coverage thanks to the ACA, with results ranging from greater access to opioid treatment to more people getting cancer screenings and check-ups. We achieved crucial protections that are helping people manage chronic conditions and keep from being an illness or injury away from bankruptcy. Repeal was as big a threat to Kentucky communities as any in the country.

More On Health Care: Nearly 250,000 Kentuckians Covered by Medicaid Will Need to Take Action to Stay Covered

It’s now time to end the drive to reverse these gains. Our leaders must move forward together on constructive efforts to build on our progress by further strengthening coverage, affordability and health.”
